New Stone Architecture in Spain Exhibition
Curator: Vincenzo Pavan
The exhibition included in the events at Marble Architecture and Design (4/7 October 2007) in collaboration with ICEX (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) aims to illustrate a selection of the best works in stone completed over the last decade by the leading protagonists of contemporary Spanish architecture comprising:
Anton Garcia Abril, Artengo-Menis-Pastrana, Alberto Campo Baeza, Carlos Ferrater, Madridejos-Osinaga, Francisco Mangado, Rafael Moneo, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Palerm & Tabares de Nava, Paredes+Pedrosa, Picado-de Blas, Cesar Portela, RCR Arquitectos and Vicens-Ramos
The works on show will illustrate public buildings, offices, housing and urban planning (squares, parks, etc.) where stone has been used in an exemplary manner.
Over the last two decades, Spain has come to occupy a key position in the updating of contemporary architecture. Thanks to an intelligent and creative review of the principles of the Modern Movement and the work of inventive and internationally-famous figures, Spain is experiencing its own highly original and extraordinary approach to current architectural culture.
One of the elements unifying the different languages and trends that characterise the panorama of recent Spanish architecture is the use of stone materials to ensure significant identification of the high-quality building culture that has always been the hallmark of the country.
Stone architecture boasts deep-rooted traditions in Spain and has re-emerged as a strong-point encouraging the creativity of great masters and young architects alike.
Through stone materials, new architecture appears more fully in material terms and expresses a bright and sunny character in cities and landscapes in different regional areas.
In keeping with the architecture shows at Marmomacc, graphic and photographic documentation will be joined by large format samples of the stone materials used in the projects exhibited with surface processing identical to the products effectively installed.
A bilingual catalogue of the exhibition will be published in Spanish and English illustrating the works on show with critical and scientific essays, photos and drawings.
