EXHIBITING THE LIGHTNESS OF MARBLE – Set-up cordinated by Cibic Workshop

Thursday 5 June at 18.30, alongside the annual Press Conference at the Milan Triennial, Marmomacc inaugurates the exhibition “The lightness of marble”, where the protagonists until 13 July in the spaces at Material ConneXion set up by Cibic Workshop are the nine prototypes that made their debut at the 2007 edition of Marmomacc Meets Design.
Developed by nine internationally famous designers for nine leading companies in the natural stone sector, the projects are the first step towards the creation of an “anthology” which, with different themes year by year, aims to investigate the multiple potential that a material such as stone, generally associated with the concept of stability and gravity, offers to contemporary creativity that, on the other hand, seems to be increasingly attracted by themes such as dynamism, levity, transparency, tactile value and bright surfaces.
In this context, Marmomacc Meets Design aims to open new interpretative scenarios by involving renowned designers in an experiment that offers sector companies the opportunity to measure up to new technological and linguistic frontiers. With the objective of presenting to a wider audience the results of the last edition, “The lightness of marble” exhibition brings together in a single set-up – which Cibic Workshop has designed as fluctuating in a theatrically dark space – highlighting the plastic and sculptural impact of these objects. Following the Milan event, the exhibition will be on show again in October during the 43rd edition of the Veronese exhibition, alongside the second edition of Marmomacc Meets Design this year having “Skin, Texture” as its theme.
This complex context emphasises the desire to create precise synergies even with realities such as Material ConneXion, the largest International Centre for Documentation and Research into innovative materials which, founded in the USA in 1997, currently has centres in Bangkok, Cologne, Milan and New York.
It prestigious library, which contains a selection of more than 4,000 materials and production processes, will be expanded over time by the research conducted by companies and designers within the scope of Marmomacc, with which it shares the precise intention of standing as a permanent observatory of the world of innovation and design culture.
“The lightness of marble” exhibition will be open Thursday 5 June to Sunday 13 July 2008 in the Material ConneXion area at the Milan Triennial.
